Rue Keyenveld 49 street art project

My vanished street art: Fred Le Chevalier

At first I didn't get it. A blank wall in Rue Keyenveld is papered over with an artist's work. It stays there for a few months and then it is hosed down and peeled off. A different work goes up a few days later and the same thing happens again. It made no sense.

But now it has been explained. The wall art is part of a campaign called Redraw Ixelles which is supported by the commune. Two neighbours living in Rue Keyenveld wanted to see art in place of a grey wall.

The Parisian street artist Fred Le Chevalier created this work in the spring of 2013. But the strange dolls with big staring eyes had gone by the summer.

My secret street art: Franck Duval

Unveiled on 30 April, this new work is a collage by the street artist Franck Duval inspired by the house across the street where Audrey Hepburn was born on 4 May 1929. It is a joyful work that captures the buoyant optimism and captivating beauty of Audrey Hepburn.

The latest work was unveiled at Rue Keyenveld 49 on 19 June. The French street artist Rubbish has decorated the grey concrete wall with faces and bees made from black sticky plastic. The next work is due to be unveiled in September.

The book box

It looks like a postbox attached to the wall of the Falgey building in Ixelles. But it is white with a glass front. You look more closely and see that it is filled with books. A notice tells you that you can deposit books you don't need. Someone else can take one to read.
