My secret gallery: lost street art

In 2006 this mural was painted on a grey garage door in Rue de la Glouttière. In 2013 the mural had been removed. The garage door was back to being grey. It felt as if we had lost something precious. But that is the nature of street art. It is created for the street, for the moment. It doesn't last forever. I have createrd this gallery to keep a record of the street art in Brussels before it has gone forever, before we start to ask ourselves whether it ever really existed.

This work went up at Rue Keyenveld 49 on 19 June 2013. The French street artist Rubbish decorated the grey concrete wall with faces and bees made from black sticky plastic. By September it will be gone.

'Really love your book. I always knew Brussels was a great city and no way boring. We enjoyed our stay in Sweet which your book rightly recommends. Sofie the owner was sweet."

The book box

It looks like a postbox attached to the wall of the Falgey building in Ixelles. But it is white with a glass front. You look more closely and see that it is filled with books. A notice tells you that you can deposit books you don't need. Someone else can take one to read.
